Island Choice Mixed Nuts (Dollar Tree)

Nuts are a snack of choice for many family members in my house. From the time when he was a kid, my husband’s favorite snack has been salted peanuts. The Planters brand is his favorite, but he also likes several of the peanut options at Aldi and at Trader Joe’s, and he loves peanuts that are sold in the shell. Lately, he’s also been sampling some of the peanut options at dollar stores.
We’ve purchased large clear containers of dry roasted peanuts from Dollar Tree. The deep discounter also sells a container of mixed nuts that features peanuts, almonds, and cashews. I bought a container of the mixed nuts to see how they taste.
Island Choice Mixed Nuts cost $1.25 for a 3.5-ounce container at Dollar Tree. That comes out to about 36 cents per ounce. I found a 27-ounce container of Great Value store brand mixed nuts at Walmart going for about 33 cents per ounce, while Planters mixed nuts at Walmart were going for about 50 cents per ounce. So the Dollar Tree mixed nuts are a better deal than name brand mixed nuts, but you can find other store brands that cost a little less per ounce.
The container states this has “less than 80% peanuts.” This is a product of the USA, Argentina, Mexico, Vietnam, Brazil, India, and Indonesia. It’s distributed by Greenbrier International, Inc., which is the company behind Dollar Tree.
Ingredients are peanuts, cashews, and almonds roasted in peanut and/or cottonseed and/or sunflower seed and/or canola oil. These also contain salt.
If you’re looking out for allergens, naturally, this contains peanuts, cashews, and almonds. This may contain traces of milk, soy, wheat, other tree nuts, and sesame.
One container has about three and a half 1/4-cup servings. One serving has 170 calories, 15 grams of total fat (19% DV), 2.5 grams of saturated fat (12% DV), 90 mg of sodium (4% DV), 5 grams of total carbohydrates (2% DV), 1 gram of total sugars, and no added sugars.
These nuts are pretty good. They’re not Planters, but they hold their own. They have just the right amount of saltiness. Our only minor complaint is that it seems like these contain more than the stated “80% peanuts.” It might be more like 90% peanuts, with just a few almonds and even fewer cashews sprinkled in. Still, what’s in this little can tastes good. Just know that you’re mostly getting peanuts.
The Verdict:
Island Choice Mixed Nuts features salted peanuts with a few almonds and cashews mixed in. The container is a nice portable size that’s easy to tuck into a backpack or to take on the go. The nut fans in our house approve of the taste. These cost less than name brands, but you can find some cheaper store brand mixed nuts out there.
