Planters Nuts at Dollar Tree Recalled Due to Potential Listeria Contamination

Hormel Food Sales LLC is recalling certain packages of Planters Honey Roasted Peanuts and Planters Deluxe Lightly Salted Mixed Nuts sold at Dollar Tree and Publix because of concerns over potential contamination with Listeria monocytogenes.

The recall affects only Dollar Tree and Publix stores in five states. The Planters products were shipped to Dollar Tree distribution warehouses in South Carolina and Georgia and to Publix distribution warehouses in Florida, Georgia, Alabama, and North Carolina.

The recalled products are as follows:

  • Planters Honey Roasted Peanuts, sold in 4-ounce packages, with a UPC of 2900002097 and a best if used by date of April 11, 2025.
  • Planters Deluxe Lightly Salted Mixed Nuts, sold in 8.75-ounce cans, with a UPC of 2900001621 and a best if used by date of April 5, 2026.

Listeria monocytogenes can cause serious and sometimes fatal infections in young children, elderly people, or people with compromised immune systems. It may cause fever, headache, nausea, vomiting, and diarrhea. Infections in pregnant women may cause miscarriage or stillbirth.

The FDA states that no other sizes, varieties, or packages of Planters products are affected by this recall. There are no illness reports to date, and all stores that received the affected nuts have been notified. The FDA also reports an investigation is under way to learn the source of the contamination.

Anyone who purchased these products should throw them away or return them to the store for a refund. For more information, customers can contact Hormel Foods Customer Relations by emailing them or calling 1-800-523-4635 Monday-Friday from 8 a.m.-11 a.m. or 2 p.m.-4 p.m. Central Time, excluding holidays.
