Clover Valley Frosted Shredded Wheat (Dollar General)

Kellogg’s Frosted Mini-Wheats is one of my favorite breakfast cereals. I especially like strawberry frosted shredded wheat, and I often buy a generic brand at my local Aldi grocery stores. However, Aldi has not always stocked the strawberry variety lately in my local stores, usually only stocking regular shredded wheat. So when I spotted frosted shredded wheat at Dollar General, I decided to give it a try, especially because they stock both regular frosted wheat and strawberry frosted wheat cereal varieties.

Clover Valley Frosted Shredded Wheat

Clover Valley Frosted Shredded Wheat cost $1.75 per box at the time of publication. The regular shredded wheat is sold in an 18-ounce box (about nine servings), while the strawberry shredded wheat comes in a 15.8-ounce box (about seven servings).

These are made in the U.S. If you’re looking out for allergens, both varieties contain wheat. These also contain gelatin, but it’s not clear if the gelatin is derived from animal or plant sources.

Regular on the left, strawberry on the right.

Both of these cereal flavors are decent takes on name-brand, with just the right amount of sweetness. The texture is slightly different than Kellogg’s shredded wheat, and these aren’t quite as “flaky.” However, if you want frosted shredded wheat and can’t get your hands on the name brand, this substitute is all right.

  1. Our local Dollar General Stores are always out of the strawberry shredded wheat. Our whole family LOVES this product. Is there anywhere on line that we can order it for ourselves? We request it all the time in Brimfield, OH, Kent, Stow, Cuyahoga Falls and Akron, OH and they tell us they will get it in, and they never do. Disappointed.
